How sad is this…

October 29th, 2007 · 4 Comments

I have lived in my current apartment for 6 weeks now. On Friday, I was visiting some Americans that live in Karaganda. One of them mentioned that he watched a college football game. I asked him what satellite channel he watched and he said that it was through the local cable system. To say I was shocked would be an understatement!

I “inherited” a satellite system that was already installed in the apartment that I just got repaired. Now I am able to watch some news through CNN International and have a few other channels that I can watch in English. Well, Saturday I went to the cable company and subscribed to one of their packages. They came yesterday and installed it.

Well, this a.m. there was a hockey game featuring the Dallas Stars and San Jose. It was a live game due to the 11 hour difference. Now, I am watching (more like listening) to game 4 of the World Series. I could have watched the whole series live! Of course, the game is translated into Russian, but thankfully, for sports, much can be watched on mute…

By the way, I am looking forward to seeing what college games will be broadcast this weekend.  Looking ahead, the station has listed the Texas- Texas AM game on Thanksgiving Day.  How cool would that be!!!

    Joe,
I am so excited for you. Thanksgiving will seem so much better if you can watch a little football.

    Are you kidding me?
I understand we just started getting 1 NFL game per week in the Czech Republic. I can’t believe you are able to watch college football!!! That’s awesome!

I know you’ll be cheering for Ohio State when the time comes.

    Brenda,
I just hope the game truly is televised. The game is scheduled at 2:30 p.m. so that means it will begin at 2:30 a.m. for me. I will sacrifice some sleep however for the game!!!

    Steve,
I have always liked OSU, and as long as they aren’t playing Texas, I will cheer for them.
BTW, I haven’t actually got to see a game yet. I will find out today at 4:30 p.m. (replay of Thursday night game…)

I made a HUGE mistake. I just looked at the schedule again. Texas and A&M play on Friday. I will be at the airport and getting on a plane for Kyiv when the kick-off occurs. Now I am really bummed!
