Frequently, I am amazed by what God is doing in my life and how He blesses me. After all these years, I never want to take for granted WHO is leading me.
A couple of nights ago I met with my friend from Syria. We hadn’t seen each other in a while and needed to catch up with all that is going on in his life. He is a medical student here.
After taking his computer to the repair shop, we walked to Liverpool Restaurant. It is a favorite among students for being inexpensive with a variety of food to choose from. I can’t say it is my favorite, but I go there because it is a good place to meet. Also, it is one of the few places in town that doesn’t allow smoking.
After getting our food and sitting down, he saw a friend of his sitting alone and so we invited him over. “H” is from Jordan and is also a medical student. BTW, he is the second Jordanian student I have met in less than a week! “H” was quite entertaining and it was fun getting to meet him.
We discussed several health issues that Ukrainians face, most importantly, the percentage of AIDS and HIV + cases. Russia and Ukraine lead the former Republics in these cases and with the “sexual revolution” hitting full stride, it doesn’t appear that it will abate any time soon.
This chance encounter provided me with an opportunity to learn from both of them the obstacles facing the young people in Ukraine. I have become such a student in this game of life. I love learning about other cultures and customs. Most of all, I love learning from the opportunities God gives me each and every day.
