June 1 was Children’s Day in Kazakhstan. Since it fell on a Sunday, our church had a special program honoring children. Several children participated by singing songs, reciting poems and both sermons spent time reflecting on children.
After church I drove back to my apartment and noticed the park near my apartment full of people. The city was celebrating Children’s Day as well. There were numerous special events happening around the city.
Even when I returned home from the evening service there were still lots of people on the streets. We are already experiencing long days here. Sun up around 4:30 a.m. and daylight until after 9:30 p.m. So the additionally sunlight allowed families to have extra time to celebrate and walk around the city.
