Grandmother summer…you bet!

The weather in Kyiv has been simply spectacular of late. Temps in the low 70’s for highs and in the 50’s at night. In other words, near perfect for me!

I saw my neighbor on the street earlier this week and we were talking about the weather. She shared with me the following Russian tale…

It occurs after the first week of September. Women, who haven’t been able to get all the things done during the summer that needed to be done, plead with God to give them two more weeks of good weather in order to get ready for fall and winter.

These two weeks that occur from around September 14-28 are called Grandmother summer, much like what we call an “Indian summer”.
