After a more than one hour delay, we left Frankfurt and arrived in Astana at 11:40 p.m. local time. I was able to get to the passport control area early and was one of the first through. It didn’t help…
Once luggage from our plane arrived, I noticed that they had the wrong airport code. You see, the Lufthansa flight flies from Frankfurt to Astana and then on to Almaty. All the bags had the ALA code for Almaty. I finally located the Lufthansa clerk but it was too late, they were able to round up the ALA bags, but the plane was already leaving for Almaty and they didn’t get our luggage off.
Needless to say, there was quite a crowd not happy about it! We all walked up to the second floor where Lufthansa’s office is located and each of us stood in line to fill out the lost luggage form.
Before reaching the office I met a lady that works for an English school in Karaganda. She was at the airport picking up one of their new teachers. I actually rented one of their apartments this summer. Any way, she offered to take me back to Karaganda which was great as I had planned to stay at the airport hotel and then take the bus downtown to the bus station and take the bus to Karaganda.
After waiting almost 2 hours to fill out our paperwork, we left the airport and arrived in Karaganda at 5 a.m. I was restless and finally went to sleep before 6 and then woke up at 8:30 wide awake!!! Since I had a lot to do today, I got up and took a shower, had my quiet time and left for the day.
I was able to get lots accomplished today PTL! I received a phone call from Lufthansa around 6 p.m. letting me know that my luggage would be at the Karaganda airport by 8 p.m. So I drove out there and got my luggage. It was a productive day and it is great to be home!
