I am from Texas…so I have grown up with heat in the summer (and sometimes even in the winter)! My family didn’t have air conditioning until I was 10 years old. So, I have experienced hot temperatures. However, I must say that I don’t ever remember it being this hot for so long and not being able to escape it.
Nineteen out of the 25 days I have lived in Donetsk have been 90 or higher. The last week it has been 99 or above. The heat doesn’t let up much at night since the lows are in the 70’s even at night. So, as I write this, I must say this is the hottest I have ever been. There is no getting away from it.
In Texas, my apartment, car and work place had AC, so the only place it is hot in in the walk to/from the car. Here in Donetsk, my apartment never cools below 80 degrees at night, even with the windows open and trying to get a cross breeze. I know that this too shall pass and it will, we are hopeful that this heat will be around another 10 days or so.
Another thing I am thankful for is the low humidity. It will be interesting how much of this I remember in January and February!
