Yesterday I visited Baraholka. It is the largest outdoor/indoor market I have ever seen. There are some big markets in Kiev, but I don’t think any of them compare to this.
It seems to go on for ever and if you happen to be in a vehicle trying to pass by, get used to stopping and waiting. Traffic in the area is incredible! Lots of busses, cars and transport vehicles are in the area.
Baraholka is actually several different markets (bazaars). It’s difficult to tell where one ends and another begins. You can walk for several miles inside the markets.
I decided to go yesterday as I knew there would be fewer people than during the weekend. Yet, still the place was packed in some areas of the market. There are enough clothes and shoes to fit a medium size city!
I still didn’t see all of the market. It will take several attempts to do that! However, I did get a feel for the market life. If you like shopping (and I know some of you do!), come to Kazakhstan. We’ll give you a taste of what live is like at Baraholka.
