On Monday, I was reading in Jeremiah. I was struck with what was written in chapter 9, verses 23-24:
“This is what the Lord says:
The wise must not boast in this wisdom;
the mighty must not boast in his might;
the rich must not boast in his riches.
But the one who boasts should boast in this,
that he understands and knows Me-
that I am the Lord, showing faithful love, justice,
and righteousness on the earth,
for I delight in these things.
[This is] the Lord’s declaration.”
The Lord gave some clear direction of whom we are to boast about. I remember a couple of youth from my first youth group in Wichita Falls. They were really stuck on themselves (as many of us are when we are that age…unfortunately, some never grow out of it). I cannot tell you how many times I spoke to them about how harmful boasting can be and how the Lord has a way of humbling us when we do.
My desire is to live a life so full of God that I can only boast in Him. Of course, I fail at this frequently. It is a battle at times to submit and follow the will of the Lord. However, it is my deepest desire to follow His will.
Why is it so hard and why do I fail so miserably? Because we have a free will that our Father allowed us to have from the moment we were born. That free will causes me to struggle with doing what is right or God honoring.
However, as I was reading in Jeremiah yesterday, the Lord reminded me of whom I am to boast in and in whom I am to listen and follow. Living and learning…
