Sunday was a great day. In the morning, I attended a church I have never been to before. I am going to try to go to a different church once or twice a month so that I can understand what is going on in Karaganda. The key verses shared that morning were from 1 Peter 2: 4-12.
Sunday evening I went to church at Bethlehem Star. This is the church I usually attend. The daughter church was leading in the service. Can you believe that Anton preached from the same text about being living stones?
So, twice on Sunday I heard very different sermons on the same text. Anton did a wonderful job of encouraging us to be the “living stones” in the context of which God has called us.
Of course, I had to reflect on what the Lord is wanting me to learn since it is a little unusual to hear the same text used twice in one day. For me it was a good reminder to hear verse 9 “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
Those of us who have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior have been called out of darkness. We are God’s people. This is great assurance for those called by His Name. It should spur me on to share this message with others in order that they might respond as the Spirit leads them.
Another strong message we need to remember is what Paul shared in verse 11-12: “Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.”
I have had several opportunities to openly share with brothers about our struggles as men that war against us. It is amazing that the brothers here struggle with many of the same issues as do men in the west.
However, we are to stand firm in the face of these struggles so that in the end, God may be glorified. Pray with me that I and the brothers will stand firm and abstain from the passions of the flesh in order that God may be glorified…
