On heat, sun, and thunderstorms

Well, it’s been hot here. Of course not like Texas (or the south), but hot for here. This morning when I woke up it was 90 degrees on my balcony at 8 a.m.!

Several guys invited me to go to the beach (yes, Kiev has some great sandy beaches on the shores of the Dniper River!) this afternoon. So after I got what needed to be done done, I headed to the river.

Man, was it hot when I arrived! The sand was burning my feet even though I had sandals on. The beach where we met doesn’t have any great shady areas so we were stuck in the sun.

I put lotion on my legs, arms and shoulders. One of the guys, Max, kept calling me “snowy” as in “white as snow.” I haven’t been out in the sun and with my fair skin I burn any way.

Well, after about 1 1/2 hours, it began clouding up so we packed up and left. I stopped by the store on my way home to pick up milk, etc. I got home and took a shower. My back was itchy and burning, so I looked in the mirror.

My back looks like a lobster in all the places where I didn’t put lotion. I knew I should have put away my manly pride and I should have asked one of the guys to put lotion on my back.

Well, as I type this, we are enjoying a good old fashioned thunderstorm, with lightning, heavy downpours, cool winds. It’s great! This is the coolest it has been in days.

I hope to go swimming again this week or next. Maybe I will go next Tuesday when I am celebrating my birthday, which is August 9! Next time though, I think I will ask someone, ANYONE, to put lotion on my back!
