Donetsk is a city full of diversity. Most people are Ukrainian, but due to the influence of Communism, the Russian language is the heart language of most people.
The people tend to be open to foreigners, but are still careful with how much they share. Many are still suspicious of others which, I think, is also a holdover from Communism, when one could not trust even the people in the family.
Since the fall of Communism, many international students have come to Donetsk to study. Because of this, faces of all colors can now be seen around the city. Some of these students decide to stay and eventually marry Ukrainians.
