Several times in Philippians, Paul exhorts the church in Philippi to rejoice in the Lord always! The book of Philippians is full great spiritual truths.

For example, in 1:6 “I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Those of us who have Jesus in our lives can live assured that God is at work in our lives and will be until the day Jesus returns or we go to be with Him.

1:21 Paul says, “For me, living is Christ and dying is gain.” He goes on to explain that he has a desire to depart from this live in order to be with Christ, but for the time it is necessary for him to remain on earth so that the Philippi church will grow in Christ Jesus. He then exhorts the church to live life in a manner of worthy of the gospel of Christ.

One of my favorite verses in this book comes from 3:10, “is to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.” He goes on to state in verse 12 that he has not reached this goal, but that he makes every effort to take hold of it because Christ has taken hold of him. Wow! All Christians should strive to want to know Christ and His sufferings! For our citizenship is in heaven (verse 20).

So in 4:4 and 6, Paul exclaims for us to rejoice in the Lord always. Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

Paul concludes in verse 19 that “my God will supply your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Rejoice, for the Lord is near!
