Sixteen years ago, while living in Lugansk, Ukraine, I traveled to the US for Christmas, via Vienna, Austria. As I landed, the city was lit up spectacularly. I didn’t travel into the city as I had booked a hotel room right at the airport due to an early flight the next morning.
I have always regretted not traveling into the city and visiting the Christmas markets. I have heard stories of how Vienna is a Winter Wonderland. In 2004, I traveled to Frankfurt to see friends for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, I left before the markets opened up.
So, I have planned a trip to visit three cities in the next 9 days. I am flying to Berlin and will be there for 3 days, then I will travel to onto Munich to visit friends and markets and then train down to Vienna to finish off the market tour and my vacation.
I have done lots of research on the cities and the markets and am looking forward to sloshing through snow, eating some German food and maybe purchasing some great things.
I am thankful for the opportunity to revisit my past and take advantage of visiting Vienna at Christmas.
