Subtle differences

Today I was at a supermarket. The cashiers here (and in Kyiv, Karaganda, and everywhere else I have been in central and eastern Europe) sit down while scanning. It has caused me to wonder if it is more functional or not.

I worked in several supermarkets when I was younger. I remember in the US when only women were cashiers and then men eventually were seen more. It’s interesting that in our part of the world, it has been usually women doing the job, but now, it is opening up more to men.

I have wanted to comment on this before, but I remembered it tonight so am just writing about it.

Also, I have noticed that young men here are letting their hair grow longer. I remember being in high school and having shaggy hair. I didn’t know 25 years later it would be back in style! Some things never really change…
