Thoughts (so far) of Frankfurt

I have enjoyed walking (and boy I have done lots of walking) in Frankfurt.  It is a nice city in many respects.

When I checked into my hotel, I was talking with the young lady who worked there.  I asked her name and she responded “Alina.”  I told her that I had a friend named Alina in Kazakhstan.  She replied, “I’m from Kstan.”  My response, “Ну что!!!” loosely translating “no way…”  We chatted a while longer.  She is from Almaty, but has lived in FF for 16 years (she must be in her late 20’s).

Well, the next day I spoke with some cleaning ladies and they also were from Kstan.  Come to find out, most of the people that work there are from Kstan.  Small world, huh?!?

My first day I caught a glimpse of the German “new” culture… kids wearing black makeup, black clothing,  multiple piercings (MULTIPLE!!!),  interesting hairstyles, etc.  I witnessed a woman “getting dressed” on the street (way too much visual), a guy trying clothes on at a really nice department store in his underwear…

It wasn’t all bad… beautiful churches (forgot my camera in the room!), wonderful “small town” feel with roads closed just to pedestrians…

I changed hotels yesterday (a story in itself).  Where I am staying now is located really close to the train station and has a swimming pool… guess I will go enjoy it today…

When I first decided to come to Frankfurt I found out where all the museums, sights, etc are located.  Since arriving, I have decided to not have an agenda and take every day moment by moment…  I’m having a great time of relaxing, except for my feet hurting from all the walking…
