Victory Day is celebrated every year in the former Soviet Republics. However, this year is the 60th anniversary of the end of the war and big celebrations are planned all over the former Soviet states.
Plans are being made here in Karaganda for a large celebration. Unfortunately, I need to be in Almaty and won’t be here to watch the events from my second floor kitchen window. I have a perfect view of the park across the street where most events take place.
The military base in town bussed in all their soldiers for a practice run yesterday and the main street was closed as they practiced. I was coming home and got to witness just the end of the practice.
I have also heard that a large event ia planned in Moscow. There are signs, billboards and other advertisements all over town announcing the 60th anniversary of the end of the “Great Patriotic War” as it is known here.
