From the BlogContact Me

What is it anyway?

The only news I really watch in English is from CNN International. It helps me stay in touch with what is going on in the world. Besides, I am a news junkie (from my old journalism days) and would love to have an English newspaper to read every morning if there was a delivery service to Kiev!

But I digress…

So, I watch CNN usually at least once a day to catch up on the headlines and I get to see a little sports news. However, the British and European idea of sport (they say “sport” in Britian and not “sports” like in the US) is not the same as our idea of sports.
I get to see the VERY EXCITING highlights of a sport called cricket!

Now, just from the hundred times or so that I have seen highlights of this sport, I have no idea what the excitement is all about, nor how the game is played! It looks like a cross between croquet and baseball.

Another sport they cover is rugby. While I “somewhat” understand this game, I could never get into it much. I love American football too much. Plus it seems like they fumble, through laterals that cause me to wonder if they really know what they are doing. Plus, watching them just kick the ball at anytime is unnerving.

Usually at the end of the segment I will get to see about 3-5 seconds of a baseball play that made the highlights and forget about college football or basketball highlights.

I would boycott CNN International, but if I did that then I would have to watch BBC or Euronews and forget about any news from America except the bad news and never a word on American SPORTS. Oh, well, guess I’ll go watch the latest excitement in cricket on the ol’ tele… (that’s British speak for TV!)
